Milton Keynes, England – TechNET IT and sister companies TechNET Digital, TechNET Immersive, TechNET CXO, Cranberry Panda and Madison Bridge are one of the first company groups in the UK to trial a 4-day working week from June this year. This is in a bid to boost morale and increase productivity whilst retaining pay.
“We trust this will improve employee work/life balance, thanks to the promise of a four-day week providing individual targets are met. “Your first 6 months in any recruitment agency is usually the hardest, no bias here but our work hard play hard culture is designed to motivate employees,” said Group Business Development Manager and Co-Founder, Curtis Bailey. “Taking reward and recognition seriously in a fast-paced industry such as recruitment is paramount for career growth and development. Not to mention, it means we can retain more top talent than ever before!”
Shayne Simpson, Group Managing Director confirms “It’s working, the figures speak for themselves with a proud growth in productivity between June and July by 125%. July to August we have seen a further growth month on month of 120%.” He continues, “May and June in comparison to August we are up by 156%, and we aren’t finished yet with deals in the pipeline!”
Resembling a well-oiled machine, all 30 TechNET employees know the drill when it comes to a Thursday. A weekly round-up following up on Monday’s pledges gives the team a chance to communicate with those who have reached their productivity goals. Ruthless planning a week ahead is at the heart of a successful week and a guaranteed 3 days off.
Staff work an average of 40 hours a week typically starting at 9 am and leaving the office at 6 pm. On Tuesday employees are permitted to work from home, with the rest of the 3 days expected to be spent in the office alongside the rest of the team. A recent Career Salaries and Insights Guide 2021 conducted by TechNET Digital and completed by hundreds of professionals in the industry, shows 53% of participants say their work-life balance was the biggest challenge. Additionally, over half of the participants (57%) said that career progression and promotion alongside learning new skills are the biggest 2021 individual goals! The UK economic growth may have slowed down again but the digital space is booming with daily placements made at TechNET to prove it.
The 2021 eCommerce salary survey and insights report conducted by sister company, Cranberry Panda, demonstrated big changes from 2020, no doubt being due to the pandemic. 25% of respondents said that staff retention was a team challenge, compared to 45% last year. The big drop in staff retention may indicate that management doesn’t believe they will lose staff due to uncertainty in the market. Keeping staff engaged just got more important than ever. Creating a better work-life balance is a 2021 individual goal for 45% of respondents compared to 36% of last year’s respondents. The 4-day working week not only allows for a better work-life balance but also allows for employees to feel valued and looked after in a workplace that’s happy to explore innovative working options.
TechNET is in the race to be the most innovative recruitment agency you’ll come across. A whopping 77% of people (252) in a recent poll via TechNET It’s LinkedIn said that the 4 Day workweek is the one benefit that stands out most to them. Surprisingly, incentive holidays abroad (10%), private healthcare (9%) and free breakfast/snacks (4%) showed a huge gap in interest. Additionally, another poll with 684 respondents revealed that 50% of people prefer flexible hours and days when it comes to ideal working schedules. Hiring a self-managing candidate who can use their initiative is very important when it comes to making the shorter week work. TechNET has systems in place such as the Thomas international Personality Profile Analysis which allows the group’s hiring managers to understand more about the future employee’s personality to determine they are the right person for the job.
